Why this name, Colton Comics? This might be the easy part to answer. If you're proud of your work, you put your name on it. Just as an artist might sign their painting or their sculpture, I want people to know two things: One, that Colton Comics can be trusted to keep their word and two, Colton Comics means quality comic books and storytelling.
Besides there are many other terrific examples of some of the best businesses in America and in the world of putting their stamp on the marketplace by putting their name on it.
Those might include: Carroll Shelby, Walt Disney, Henry Nestle, William Colgate, Samuel Colt, Henry Ford, Kiichiro Toyoda, Guccio Gucci, Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson, Soichiro Honda, Ralph Lauren and Enzo Ferrari just to name a few. After all, it's kind of shame that there is no Kirby Comics named after Jack Kirby. It would have been quite the company, the name would have been catchy and it might have cleared up a lot of issues.
Why this logo? Why the black and yellow? Why the five pointed star?
The black and yellow were chosen as the colors for a couple of reasons. One because those are colors that stand out and are eye catching. Nature knows these things and that's part of the reason why bees, hornets, poisonous frogs, cheetahs, spiders and snakes wear black and yellow markings - it serves as a warning to those who know and an attention getter.
The other reason is family. The Colton family crest is predominantly black and yellow. And in part it's after my grandfather Ralph.
Ralph Colton served in WWII and the Korean War with distinction. He was in the U.S. Army Calvary division.
